Sony Announces 13 Megapixel LTE Smartphone

Today Sony Mobile announced two new LTE-supporting smartphones – its first LTE smartphones for its home market, Japan. The two phones are named Xperia GX and Xperia SX. The handsets will support download speeds of up to 75mbps. Device specifications and availability are given below. Sony Xperia GX specifications:

  • Screen: 4.6” Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine
  • Resolution: 720p
  • Processor: 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Still Camera: 13MP with Sony Exmor R for mobile, capable of 3D panoramic images
  • Video Camera: HD recording
  • OS: Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Colors: White and black
  • Availability: Summer 2012

Sony Xperia SX specifications:

  • Screen: 3.7” Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine
  • Resolution: 720p
  • Processor: 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Still Camera: 8MP with Sony Exmor R for mobile, capable of 3D panoramic images
  • Video Camera: HD recording
  • OS: Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Colors: White and black
  • Weight: 95 grams, claims to be world’s lightest LTE smartphone
  • Misc: Japan specific features like infrared port, mobile wallet and mobile TV
  • Availability: Summer 2012

Sony also announced three new media applications for these new smartphones:

  • WALKMAN: for playing, discovering and recommending music
  • Album: allows sorting and browsing of photos and videos. Also allows users to view, comment, and share photos on Facebook and other online mediums
  • Movies: movie information search database
