Telecom equipment vendor Nokia Siemens Networks announced the launch of its Smart WLAN Connectivity Solution that can offload mobile broadband traffic to Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) without any break in service. The new solution can provide faster data connections and preserve the mobile network capacity. Smart WLAN Connectivity eliminates the need to manually switch a device’s data connection between Wi-Fi and wireless broadband, managing the transition without interrupting service, according to company officials.
“We all know that mobile data traffic is growing at an exponential rate due to the widespread adoption of smart phones, tablets and net books,” said Thorsten Robrecht, head of network systems product management at Nokia (News – Alert) Siemens Networks, in a statement. Mobile devices like smartphones tablets and net books support Wi-Fi. Integrating Wi-Fi with mobile networks can reduce the need for additional capacity in the mobile network, Robrecht said. Users can enjoy seamless service without choosing among different networks and technologies.
Smart WLAN Connectivity Solution allows integration of Wi-Fi and mobile networks, providing increased overall network capacity, supporting both data and voice services, company officials said.
The solution allows operators to use the existing services and functionality supported by its packet core network such as authentication, charging, policy control and traffic management for both mobile and Wi-Fi traffic in a unified way.
Last year, Nokia Siemens Networks was ranked first in the Vendor Matrix launched by ABI Research.
